Recently, the 2nd International Annual Conference on China Green Mine was convened in Beijing, and Zhunneng Group received the Outstanding Contribution to Green Mining Award for its notable achievements in green mining development and construction. The CHN Energy Zhunneng Group Open-pit Mine Mining-Dumping-Restoring Integrated Demonstration Project won the first prize in the Major Project of Green Mining Award; the Research and Application of Comprehensive Dust Control Technology for Blasting, Mining and Loading at Ha’erwusu Open-pit Coal Mine and Low-Temperature Pyrolysis Hydrothermal Impurity Removal Technology for Leaching of Alumina from Fly Ash by Acid Method, won the second prize in Green Mine Science and Technology Progress Award. In addition, two employees of Zhunneng Group were awarded Excellent Science and Technology Personnel in Green Mining and Individual with Outstanding Contribution to Green Mining respectively. The Company was also invited to share its practical experience in green mine construction at the conference sub-forum.
Over the years, based on resource endowment, Zhunneng Group has firmly upheld and acted on the principle that “l(fā)ucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”. Practicing simultaneous mining and rehabilitation, the Company prioritizes protection, prevention and control from the source, and focuses on coordination and planning, science and technology leadership, technological innovation, and sound implementation, exploring to establish a replicable and sustainable mine ecological restoration model that can be widely adopted. This model has addressed the challenges between the ecological conservation and high-quality development in the Yellow River basin, and realized coordinated development of ecological, environmental, social and economic benefits.
Since 1990, Zhunneng Group has completed 98,500 mu (about 16,227 acres) of vegetated area, and built eight ecological functional areas, including the Forestry Area, the Agricultural Area, and the Scenic Spot, with vegetation coverage rate increasing from 25% to more than 85%, realizing the positive succession, virtuous cycle, notable improvement in regional biodiversity, and optimized microclimate. Over the past five years, the gross ecosystem product (GEP) of the mining area of Zhunneng Group has increased by RMB 1.4 billion, achieving a win-win outcome for economic development and ecological conservation.
In 2024, Zhunneng Group was granted multiple honors, including China’s Innovation Demonstration Zones for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Sustainable Development Demonstration Site in Ordos City and Advanced Green Mine Construction Enterprise in Ordos City. Furthermore, the Heidaigou Open-pit Coal Mine Ecological Restoration Case of Zhunneng Group was selected as one of the first 15 exemplary cases of ecological restoration in production mines by the Ministry of Natural Resources and has been promoted within the guidelines supported by the Ministry for high-quality development in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
